Born June 17, 1933, in Painesville, to Robert and Frances Marie (nee Bixler) Beech, she was a lifelong Lake County resident.

Mrs. Gates was an avid reader, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

She was lovingly referred to by her grandchildren as “Marnie,” a.k.a. “GG.”

Mrs. Gates was a safety investigator for Greyhound Bus Lines, retiring after 30+ years of service.

Survivors include her children, Sharon (Greg Funk) Vitantonio, of Wickliffe, and Jeffrey (Anne) Gates, of Painesville Township; grandchildren, Melissa (Mark) Schneider, Nicole (Paul) Sobotka and Sarah Gates; and great-grandchildren, Rachel, Christian, Kaitlyn and Izzabelle.

She also leaves her brothers, Robert (Joanne), Roger (Eleanor) and Donald Beech.

She was predeceased by her parents; and son-in-law, Gary Vitantonio.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Jan. 25, 2016, at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, followed by the funeral service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
