CHARDON – Gerald Custer, age 87, of Chardon, passed away Feb. 19, 2017, at Heartland of Mentor.
Born Feb. 7, 1930, in Cleveland, to John A. Custer and Effie (nee Ihle) Shanon, he was raised by his aunt Bertha Ihle.
Gerald is survived by his three children, Carol (Julius) Baranyai, Lois Schmidt and David (Ann) Yadwisiak; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and companion, Ruth Dukes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene (nee Kust) Custer; and son-in-law, William Schmidt.
Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.
A funeral service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at Chardon Baptist Church 363 Wilson Mills Road, Chardon.
Friends are asked to meet at Lakeview Cemetery at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, when Gerald will be laid to rest next to his beloved Irene.
