NEWBURY TWP. – Margaret Ann “Peggy” Soplata, 86, longtime resident of Newbury Township, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1930, in Cleveland, daughter of John and Margaret (nee Cooligan) Murray.
Peggy was the first in her class as a graduate of Newbury High School in 1948.
She married Walter A Soplata, on Oct. 2, 1948, and was married 62 loving years before he passed away Nov. 5, 2010.
Margaret was one of the original members of St. Helen Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies Guild and the church library.
She was very talented in knitting and crocheting; winning many ribbons at the fair for art and flowers.
She enjoyed watching TV, going to the air show and the Middlefield flea markets.
Margaret is survived by her loving family, including her five children, Rita (Michael) Mitch, of Sagamore Hills, Sister Mary Barbara Soplata, SND, of Chardon, Margaret (William) Soplata, of Newbury, Walter C. (Lisa) Soplata, of Collierville, Tenn., and Mary (Daniel) Braford, of Claridon Township; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her parents; two infant brothers, John Patrick Murray and John Lawrence Murray; and her brother John David Murray and his wife Gerry Murray.
Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 3 at Russell-Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 West High St., Middlefield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 4 at St. Helen’s Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury, with burial following at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
In lieu of flowers, contributions suggested to St. Helen’s Catholic Church or to the Sisters of Notre Dame, 13000 Auburn Road, Chardon, OH 44024.
