NEWBURY TWP. – June K. (nee Karlovec) Ober, age 98, of Newbury Township, passed peacefully on Oct. 10, 2016, at Heather Hill Communities.

June was born Aug. 5, 2018, in Cleveland. She graduated from John Adams High School in Cleveland and attended Dyke Business College.

Growing up, June’s summers were spent at the family cottage in Little Punderson Lake in South Newbury. She enjoyed swimming, horseback riding and going to dances with her friends at the South Newbury K&P Hall.

It was at one of those dances that she met a local farmer, Lloyd Ober. They would later marry and spend 72 years together. Lloyd and June lived their entire life on the family farm at Center Newbury.

Shortly after her marriage, the United States entered World War II and June went to work at Jacque & Heinz in Solon, a war plant building directional gyros for bombers used in the European theater.

After the war, she went to work  for the United States Postal Service, working as a postal clerk in the Newbury Post Office. Spending 27 years working in the post office allowed June to get to know just about every resident of Newbury Township on a first name basis.

At the age of 42, June was diagnosed with breast cancer from which she fully recovered. As a result, she became a volunteer for the American Cancer Association Reach to Recovery program giving hope to women facing similar diagnoses.

After retiring from the post office, June spent her time traveling with her husband and volunteering with the local garden club.

June and Lloyd’s greatest joy was getting on the dance floor and recreating that magic moment when they first met.

Her smile and engaging personality will be missed by all that knew her.

June is survived by her son, Les.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; father, Otto Karlovec; mother, Julia Karlovec; and brother, Roy Karlovec, and his wife, Mildred.

A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. on Oct. 29, 2016, at Newbury Center Cemetery. A celebration of June’s live will follow at Newbury United Community Church on Auburn Road, just south of Newbury Center across from the cemetery.

The family is requesting that instead of flowers a donation be given to the Hospice of the Western Reserve or the American Cancer Society.
