Emma E. Miller, faithful servant and cherished daughter of the Lord Jesus, went to her heavenly home on Dec. 8, 2021, at the age of 99, reuniting with the love of her life as well as children, family and friends who have gone on before her. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt as well as a good friend to many, always ready with an encouraging word and testimony about the Jesus she knew and served.
Emma was born on June 1, 1922, to Eli and Susie Miller, of Welshfield. She married Ervin Miller in 1942 and the two were nearly inseparable for 74 years before Ervin went home to be with the Lord in 2016.
At the age of 30, Emma read the book “The Greatest Story Ever Told” and it changed her and Ervin’s lives forever. In 1958, Ervin was ordained as pastor of Maple View Mennonite Church and they served together for many years, loving the people God called them to serve and pointing them to Jesus.
During retirement years, Ervin and Emma could be found in the neighboring nursing homes, sharing their faith in Jesus and lending a helping hand. Emma was bold in sharing her faith, quick to pray for the needs around her and always ready with an encouraging word.
Emma loved to cook and embraced hospitality, serving her loved ones right up to the last weeks of her life. She always enjoyed gardening, and her flowerbeds were always in full bloom during the summer months.
She is survived by seven children, Susie (Adin) Miller, Merv Miller, Lon Miller, Lee (Vina) Miller, Sara (Brian) Milgate, Judy (William) Dornback and Mary Beth (Doug) McMillan; daughter-in-law, Mary Therese Landies; 24 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; brother Melvin (Lydia) Miller; and sister Mary (Crist) Hershberger.
She was predeceased by her husband of 74 years, Ervin, in 2016; son E. Ray Miller; daughter and son-in law, Esther and Harvey Weaver; granddaughter Angela Miller; great-grandson Jude Edward Owens; great-granddaughter Jordan Weaver; great-grandson Joshua Weaver; parents; and other siblings.
Funeral service for Emma will be at Restoration Chapel, 14890 Burton-Windsor Road, Burton, on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, at 2 p.m. Family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. prior to the service at Restoration Chapel.
