Dale Richard Lear

Dale Richard Lear, age 84, of Middlefield, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, after a brief illness at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle.

Dale was born April 4, 1939, in Cleveland, to the late Van M. and Vera A. (nee Sandstrom) Lear. He graduated from Cardinal High School in 1959 and joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1962-1964.

He was the owner and operator of Lear Electric. He served the area residents and businesses for over 50 years, retiring in 2019.

Dale enjoyed traveling on bus trips, fishing, bowling and spending time with his loving family.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Violet Leta (nee Somerville) Lear; son Michael R. (Tracy) Lear; grandchildren, Hannah Lear, Amber Kirkwood and family, Anthony Lear and family; sister Nancy Costanzo; sisters-in-laws, Jeanie McAndrew, Lois Marley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Dale Clifford Lear; brothers Dean, Van, Fred, Robert; sister Joan E. Starr; and a great-grandson, Jayden.

Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. until his funeral service at 12 noon Jan. 13, 2024, at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High Street, Middlefield.

Burial will follow the services at Overlook Cemetery in Parkman Township.
