It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Alan Russell McMillin, on Dec. 21, 2023, at his home.
Born on Jan. 1, 1954, to Ralph and Barbara McMillin, in Erie, Pa., Alan’s life journey was one of quiet strength and unwavering curiosity. A dedicated Geauga County resident for over 33 years, Alan’s legacy is etched in the cherished memories of those who were fortunate to know him.
Alan’s pursuit of knowledge led him to Kent State University, where he earned an associate’s degree that fueled his lifelong career as a skilled machinist, specializing in crafting plastic mold equipment.
While Alan may have been a private individual, his passion for the cosmos shone brightly. His three telescopes were not merely instruments, but portals through which he gazed into the vast expanse of the night sky, captivated by the mysteries of space. His love for space travel and science fiction served as an endless source of inspiration, nurturing his imagination and enriching his soul.
In the tapestry of Alan’s life, family held a special place. He is survived by his loving daughter, Rachel McMillin, of Byesville, Ohio; and his sons, Rory and Alan, also of Byesville. Seven cherished grandchildren were the recipients of his wisdom and affection.
Alan’s enduring spirit will also be remembered by his sisters, Kathy Mattox, Lourie Adams and Nancy McMillin, who shared in the joys and sorrows of life’s journey.
To honor Alan’s memory, a private family service was held, providing an intimate space for remembrance and reflection.
As we bid farewell to Alan, let us remember him not with sorrow, but with gratitude for the warmth he brought to our lives.
