Joseph Nyzen passed away in the comfort of his home on Oct. 21, 2023, at the age of 84.
Born Jan. 21, 1939, in Ashtabula, Joe grew up in Jefferson. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School.
Following his father’s and grandfather’s passion for construction, he earned degrees from Case Institute of Technology and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Structural Engineering. He later earned his architectural degree. He maintained registration as a Professional Engineer in Ohio, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Tennessee, and registered Architect in Ohio.
Joe started his career at Dalton-Dalton-Little-Newport as a structural engineer. He had the opportunity to spend time in Sudan and Ethiopia on extended assignments, and spoke of this experience throughout his life.
In 1977, he started his own business, Nyzen Consulting, and was happily self-employed in Northeast Ohio for 45 years. He became recognized as an expert in structural engineering in both commercial and residential construction. He had a passion for knowledge and spent considerable time building expertise with the latest construction methods, materials, and regulations and application to new and existing construction.
Joe will be missed by his wife, Loretta Nyzen; children, Robert (Kelly) Nyzen, of Hiram, and Ronald (Kuni) Nyzen, of Munson Township; brother, Dr. Richard C. (Lynn) Nyzen; sister, Janien A. Faulk; and grandchildren, Henry Nyzen, Emily Nyzen, John Nyzen and Katie Nyzen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Nyzen.
There will be no calling hours.
