Janet Kay Roof, age 77, passed away peacefully in Chardon on Aug. 19, 2022. She was a lifelong resident of Auburn Township.
She was born on April 28, 1945, to Wilfred and Audrey (nee Youngman) Dietz, in Chagrin Falls.
Janet was raised on the Munn Road farm, riding horses and listening to country music. She met her husband, Robert Roof, and was happily married for many years on their Franks Road property.
She loved to play card games, especially pinochle, with her friends. She also enjoyed chair volleyball, line dancing and playing pool at the senior center.
In earlier years, Janet coached her children’s baseball teams, the Green Goblins and Purple Puppies. She played softball with friends for many years.
Janet was an avid bowler and when asked her profession it was a questionable substitute. People loved going to her house to play scrabble, practice drawing for Pictionary, go on hayrides, swim and have golf-cart adventures. She was truly the life of any party she attended.
Janet was a true sports fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians. She brought joy, pranks, and laughter to many people at Thistle House Senior Living and caregivers from Visiting Angels. She will be missed dearly by many.
Janet is survived by her children, Michelle (Chris) Coon and Nicole (Dave) Emerson; grandchildren, Chelsea, Pierce, Bobby and Seianna; siblings, Cheryl (Jack) Stankus, Denny (Mary Ann) and Fred. She also leaves behind niece, Jamie; and nephews, Jason and Michael.
She is preceded by her loving husband, Robert; and both her parents.
The family will receive friends on Aug. 27, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 2-4 p.m., with a service following at 4 p.m., at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.
Private family burial will take place at a later date.
