CLARIDON TWP. – Eleanor H. Pura (nee Wilms), age 102 1/2, a lifelong resident of Claridon Township, peacefully passed away on Aug. 17, 2022, at Geauga Assisted Living.
She was born Dec. 18, 1919, to Charles H. and Gertrude (nee Staffeld) Wilms, in Cleveland.
Eleanor married Stephen R. Pura, on Sept. 10, 1942, in West Farmington. He preceded her in death April 29, 1981.
Eleanor was a wonderful cook, avid reader and a master gardener.
She, along with her husband, started their nursery and Christmas tree farm business on Taylor Wells Road in Claridon in the 1950s. After his death, she continued running the business well into the late 1980s. Many families made it a tradition to get their Christmas tree, flower and vegetable plants from them.
She is survived by her nephews, Richard (Gay) Baskin, Joe (Virginia) Toth; nieces, Judy Brilla, Beverly Palinsky; and many grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, James Evans; husband, Stephen Pura; sister, Myrtle Baskin; brothers, Charles and Robert Wilms; and nephew Daniel Baskin.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022, at Claridon Center Cemetery on Mayfield Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to a charity of their choice.
The family would like to thank the staff at Geauga Assisted Living for their loving care.
Arrangements made by Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chardon. Information and condolences online at www.burrservice.com.
