Mary Susan Zion

CLARIDON TWP. – Mary Susan “Sue” (nee Clifton) Zion was born April 1, 1950, in Covington, Ky., to Vernon and Olga (nee Kovalavich) Clifton.

The oldest of three children, she is survived by her brother William (Mary) Clifton, of Chardon.

She was preceded in death by her brother Richard Clifton.

Sue’s father, Vernon, worked for Chrysler Corp. and moved several times while growing up. They lived in Detroit, Pittsburgh, Newbury Township and Chardon, where she graduated from Chardon High School, class of 1968.

She married in 1971 and had three wonderful daughters, Kristen (Chad) Bass, of Chardon, Jennifer Mittower, of Columbus, and Allison Mittower (deceased).

She was married again on March 20, 1993, to Terrance M. Zion and resided in Claridon Township.

Her joys were many, starting with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She loved all children and did child care in her home and during church at Morning Star Friends Church.

She was very artistic and loved crafts of all kinds.

Christmas was her favorite holiday, spending Christmas Eve at her parents and Christmas Day with her husband and children.

Sue was past member of The Great Geauga County Fair Auxiliary and current member of the Chardon F.O.E. # 2267 Auxiliary.

She worked for Lawyers Title, Geauga County Juvenile Court and Geauga Credit Union.

She also is survived by her husband and best friend, Terry, of Claridon; daughters Kristen and Jennie; grandchildren, Jacob, Owen, Ryan, Leah and Juliana Bass; and sister-in-law, Lynn Clifton.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and father-in-law, Homer Zion.

A memorial gathering will be from 4-8 p.m. July 1 at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, followed by a memorial service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
