Catherine Jean Beardsley

Beardsley, Jean 1MONTVILLE TWP. – Catherine Jean Beardsley, age 91, of Montville Township, passed away May 28, 2016, at Blossom Hill Nursing Home in Huntsburg Township.

Born May 10, 1925, in Cleveland, to Alexander and Mildred “Betty” (nee Cassill) Bonnett, she had been a lifelong area resident.

Jean graduated from Mayfield High School, after which she met Berton Beardsley at the Chester Dance in January of 1946.

After sweeping her off her feet, they married Sept. 21, 1946, in Lyndhurst. Their oldest daughter Cathy was born in 1947 and the young family moved from Auburn Road to the Beardsley Family Farm in Montville, where they lived the rest of their lives.

Bert and Jean enjoyed their life on the Mer-Ber-Lin Farm, raising Cathy and Alexa as the fifth generation.

Jean enjoyed being a homemaker, mother and grandmother.

While working as school secretary at Montville School, Jean began taking classes at Lake Erie College, earning her teaching degree in 1967. She began teaching fourth grade at Montville and Ledgemont elementary schools, teaching for over 29 years.

Along with her husband, she was a member of the Country Clubbers Farm Bureau, St. Barbara Catholic Study Club, 4-H Club Advisor of over 20 years, member of Delta Kappa Gamma, member of Geauga County Retired Teachers’ Association and a volunteer at Geauga Community Hospital.

She enjoyed reading, baking, cooking, sewing and photography.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughters, Rachel and Maria.

Survivors include her children, Cathy (Robert, deceased) Myers, of Montville, and Alexa (John) Holbert, of Montville; granddaughters, Rachel (Dan Grm) Holbert, of Euclid, and Maria (Zack Lausin), of Montville; siblings, Barbara Kallman, of Los Angeles, and Alexander J. (Colletta) Bonnett, of Euclid; sister-in-law, Sadie Stanley, of Montville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Berton.

Visitation is Saturday, June 11, from 10-11 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 16550 Rock Creek Road, Thompson Township, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. at the church.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Blossom Hill and Hospice of the Western Reserve for the compassionate care afforded to Jean.
