Dominic Philip Ricci

HUNTSBURG TWP. ­– Dominic Philip Ricci, age 18, of Huntsburg Township, passed away June 6, 2017.

Born Nov. 12, 1998, in Painesville, to Philip and Barbara (nee Molnar) Ricci, Dominic was a lifelong resident.

He recently graduated from Chardon High School, where he was a dedicated student and athlete.

Dominic was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church and Lifeteen.

Survivors include his parents; sister, Madalyn, of Huntsburg; grandparents, Orlando and Eileen (nee McCrudden) Ricci, of Newbury Township, and William and Alyce (nee Stankiewicz) Molnar, of Munson Township; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He also leaves his beloved girlfriend, Kaitlin Kobuszewski, of Chardon; and countless friends.

Dominic was preceded in death by his cousin Gregory Ricci.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 11 from 1-5 p.m. at Chardon High School, 151 Chardon Ave.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 12 at St. Helen Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury. Burial will follow at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.

Jackson Condon

Jackson Tyler Condon, age 17, of Chardon, born July 2, 1999, in Atlanta, Ga., passed away on June 7, 2017, at University Hospital in Cleveland.

He was a 2017 graduate of Chardon High School.

Forever and always,

Jackson once said, “I always want everyone to know that if they ever need something, I’m someone they can always come to for help.”

This represents everything Jackson stood for in his life. He put everyone in front of himself in everything he did.

Jackson was voted by his classmates for the leadership award and it is safe to say that it was well deserved. He was involved in a wide variety of activities at Chardon and was loved by the whole community. You could see him at any sporting event, near or far, as well as King Kone, the local ice cream shop.

Some things he was active in were, The Say Something Program, Senior Mentoring, Drug Awareness Program, numerous Leadership Camps, Golf, Track, AC4P (Actively Caring for People), Baseball and many more. Not only was he an active participant, he held numerous leadership positions.

Jackson was very motivational and you could always count on him to brighten your day. With a big smile and a goofy personality, he was the type of guy who would light up a room. His positive energy drew many in, creating friendships that could never be broken. His enthusiasm and love for life will be missed by all.

He is survived by his mom, Monique (nee Zarindast) Condon; father, Ronald Condon; and sister, Catherine Condon, of Chardon.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Morning Star Friends Church, 12550 Ravenna Road, Munson Township, where Reverend Chris McCann of St. Luke Episcopal Church will officiate.

Burial will follow at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, 11521 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township.

Donations are suggested to a fund being set up in Jackson’s name. Details will be released as they become available.

Sophia A. Medynski, age 89, died June 10, 2017, in Cleveland.

She was born on Jan. 6, 1928, in Maplehurst Township, Wisc., to Felix and Katherine (nee Ziemba) Medynski.

Sophia was a secretary, having worked for Montgomery Ward and Walmart.

She was a resident of Mt. Prospect, Ill., for 70 years, before moving to Chardon in 2015 to be near her family.

Survivors include her sister, Julia Cable, of Middlefield Village; niece, Karen (Gerald) Heil, of Chardon; nephew, Bruce (Dawn) Cable, of Concord Township; three great-nephews; and five great-great-nieces and nephews.

Sophia was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, John.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. June 14, 2017, at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, 11521 Chillicothe Road, Chesterland.

MUNSON TWP. – Sue Carol Walker (nee Kirkpatrick), age 80, of Munson Township, died June 1, 2017, at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center in Claridon Township.

Born Nov. 22, 1936, in Cleveland, to Guy and Rose (nee Fioretti) Kirkpatrick, she was a lifelong area resident.

Sue was a graduate of Chardon High School and a member of the Church of St. Mary.

She and her husband owned and operated the former Midway Inn in Munson for 15 years.

She enjoyed gardening and butterflies.

Survivors include her children, Denise Friend, Kirk (Denise) Walker, both of Munson, and Rick (Beth) Walker, of Perry Township; grandchildren, Kirk Jr., Cody and Logan Walker, and Joey and Nicky Walker; and sister-in-law, Vickie (David) Nicholas, of Chardon.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Richard “Dixie” Walker; and son-in-law, Bob Friend.

The family will receive friends from to 4-7 p.m. June 6 at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. June 7 at the funeral home, with burial to follow at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township.

AVONDALE, AZ – Roberta Jean “Bobbie” Carver, 68, of Avondale, Ariz., and formerly of Chardon, passed away Jan. 7, 2017.

She was born June 6, 1948, to the late Andrew and Mary Plesz.

Bobbie married Fred W. Carver on June 25, 1977, in Hambden Township, and between them they have six children.

In her younger years, Bobbie and Fred enjoyed riding motorcycles all over the country.

Bobbie enjoyed traveling and camping with the family, and a good fishing contest.

She loved gambling and playing lottery scratch-offs.

Bobbie loved going to restaurants and mom-and-pop diners.

She also is known for her breakfasts, soups and had the ability to get any stain out of any type of fabric.

She was most known for her frankness and wicked sense of humor.

Bobbie worked at Chardon Rubber for 42 years.

Bobbie is survived by her husband of 40 years, Fred W. Carver; daughters, Michaelene (Ron) DeVault, of Goodyear, Ariz., Michelle (Micah) Jones, of Mt. Airy, Md.; stepchildren, Laura Carver (R. Scott) Dowling, of Windsor, Shannon Carver (Jeff) Lewis, of Chardon Township, Terry (Paula) Carver, of Cleveland, and Thomas (Tammy) Carver, of Chardon; grandchildren, Brandi (Zach) Leroy, of Goodyear, Ariz., Jacquelyn (Justin) Weir, of Owatonna, Minn.; step-grandchildren, Jessie (Josh) Duncan, of Mentor, Cody Carver, Clayton Dowling, Megan Carver, Tyler Carver and Travis Carver; great-grandchildren, Brook, Emily and Adeline Leroy; and step-great-grandchildren, Zachary, Nathan and Dominic Duncan, and Amiyah Carver.

Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents; and great-grandson Ryland Weir.

A memorial gathering will be held at Hambden Town Hall on June 17, from 2-4 p.m., with Rev. Dove officiating at 4 p.m.

George E. Veloski

George E. Veloski, age 77, beloved husband for 57 years of Patricia (nee Kelly); loving father of Peggy Siebert, George (wife Loretta), and Kathleen Augis (husband Andre); devoted grandfather of Kyle, Emily and Evan Siebert, Becca Tinnel (husband Jason), Melissa Hatton (husband Lucas); and great-grandfather of Isabella, Chandler and Keegan Tinnel, Bailey and Maci Hatton; cherished son of the late George F. and Mary (nee Zuzek); dearest brother of Daniel (wife Helene) and the late Barbara Swigonski (husband Frank, deceased); dear uncle and great-uncle of many.

George was born on June 20, 1939, in Gowanda, N.Y., and passed away on June 1, 2017. He was a 41-year resident in Chardon and a member of St. Mary Church.

George was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Chardon Eagles.

He graduated from Cathedral Latin High School in 1957 and worked as a repairman for Sears.

George loved woodworking and yard work, and enjoyed helping others as a handy-man.

Family time, traveling to New England and helping others gave George the most enjoyment in life. He will be remembered most as a man with a great sense of humor.

George was very kind to his family and others, he was always willing to lend a helping hand. George was very humble, good to all and was an “everyday kind of guy.” He will be dearly missed.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. June 8, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 401 North St., Chardon. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery.

Betty Jane Stewart

BAINBRIDGE TWP. – Betty Jane Stewart, age 93, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on April 18, 2017. She was born March 28, 1924.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J.; and brother, Homer G. Lemke.

Jane will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, David (Jaynee), Brian (Michelle) and Scott (Karen).

She will also be fondly remembered by her five grandchildren, Larrin, Heather, Erik, Lindsey and Katie Foraker (Tom).

She was born in Chicago, Ill., where she spent her formative years and graduated from North Park College.

Jane was a long-time resident of Bainbridge Township. She was an actively involved in the local community and loved to travel and explore.

She was a talented seamstress, cook, gardener, lover of countless dachshunds and nature, and an avid reader.

Jane worked for many years at Kenston Schools and Hamlet Village.

Jane touched the lives of many and was respected and loved by all who met her. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the talented and compassionate care givers that allowed her to live her final years at home, as she wished.

A private celebration of her life will be held on June 25.

The family suggests donations in her memory be made to Geauga Humane Society’s Rescue Village or Hospice of Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Albert S. Evans

MIDDLEFIELD – Dr. Albert S. Evans (“Dr. Al”), age 87, passed away in his sleep at his home on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, in Middlefield.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1929, in Lackawanna, N.Y., son of the late Stephen A. and Rose (nee Bartus) Evans. He received his B.A. and master’s in biology at University of Buffalo, NY, and his doctorate at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo.

He was a prominent board certified family physician in Middlefield, practicing there from 1956-2004. He spearheaded a movement to build an Amish Birthing Center, and donated the land in 1988.

Dr. Al was also the Geauga County coroner for 33 years, elected in 1972 and serving until June 2005, and named to the Geauga County Republican Party Hall of Fame. He also served on the Geauga County Board of Health for 20 years, from 1974-1994.

He was a clinical assistant professor of medicine for Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, from 1996-1999, and was recognized for clinical teaching and education of medical students.

Dr. Al was an active staff member of University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center for 31 years. He delivered over 3,000 babies during the course of his career.

He was also Geauga County representative to the Cuyahoga Board of Mental Health. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award in January 2015 from the Cleveland Academy of Osteopathic Medicine for his dedication to the osteopathic profession.

Dr. Evans was a dedicated physician who was passionate in his service to the community and was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. He was a fan of all of Cleveland sports teams and, on retirement, he enjoyed reading about the Civil War.

He especially loved being with his family and going to the grandchildren’s activities. His family and friends will miss him dearly.

Dr. Evans is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Rose Marie (nee Theobald) Evans; five loving children, Eileen (Stephen) Seliskar, Steve (Sue) Evans, Patty (John) Tumbush, Jean (John) Hastings and Marty Evans; eight grandchildren, Katelyn, Stephen, Steve (Janelle), Eric, John (Alana), Michael, Courtney, and Greg; brother, Robert (Janet) Evans; and exchange student Arax Nazarian.

His parents and his sister, Helen Kujawa, who died in 2004, precede him in death.

Calling hours will be held at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 16280 Kinsman Road, Middlefield, on Friday, June 9, from 4-8 p.m., and on Saturday, June 10, from 10-11 a.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the church at 11 a.m. June 10, immediately followed by a luncheon reception in the Church Hall. Burial will follow at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.

Betty J. Koelliker

Memorial services for Betty J. (nee Hamill) Koelliker, 91, of Chardon, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road, Chardon. Family and friends are asked to meet at church.

Mrs. Koelliker passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Governor’s Village in Mayfield Village.

Born Aug. 12, 1925, in Cleveland, she had been a resident of Geauga County for more than 50 years.

Betty lived life focusing her time and energy on the things she truly cared most for: family, friends, community and the environment.

She devoted many years to volunteer work, including 10 years for the Red Cross, 22 years at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and 20 years as a poll worker for Geauga County. She also served on the Munson Township Zoning Commission from Dec. 17, 1981, to Oct. 12, 1999.

She was the loving mother of Leah J. (Joe) Carleton, Joseph W. (Joan) Koelliker III, Rachel K. (Derek) Vanek, Deborah A. Koelliker and Daniel D. (Susan) Koelliker; cherished grandmother of Sarah (Alex) Ivanov, Lindsay (Jay) Moore, Rebecca Carleton, Katia Koelliker and Lara Koelliker; great-grandmother of Thomas, Hannah, Amelia, Johnny, Adam, Aiden and Violet; sister of Walter (Jeanne) Hamill; and aunt of nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph W. Koelliker Jr., M.D., on Oct. 13, 2015; and parents, J. Walter and Laura Jane (nee Smith) Hamill.

Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017, at The Abbey of Willoughby, 38011 Euclid Ave. (located on the grounds of McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home), in Willoughby.

Burial will be private.

Jennie E. Tropf

Jennie E. Tropf (nee Ricker), age 74, passed away June 11, 2017, at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. She bravely fought breast cancer and lived many years with Parkinson’s disease.

She was born Nov. 27, 1942, at Dr. Corey’s Hospital, in Chardon, to the late Carl and Ina Ricker.

A longtime resident of Middlefield, Jennie grew up in the Burton/Troy area. She graduated from Berkshire High School in 1961.

Jennie was a loving wife, mother and aunt. She worked in the office of Johnson Rubber before she started her family. She was a volunteer at Cardinal Music Boosters concession stand at football games. After her children were grown, she worked at McDonald’s in Middlefield for 10 years.

She was an avid reader, loving mysteries. She enjoyed family picnics, where she reined as the croquet champion many times.

She loved to walk with her husband, Gene, around Middlefield or at Swine Creek Park.

Jennie is survived by her husband, Gene; her children, Barbara and Thomas (Jennifer); brothers, John Ricker and Paul Ricker (Martha); and many nieces and nephews.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Carl and Ina Ricker; brothers, William and Carl (Al) Ricker; sisters, Shirley Shefchuk and Ann Yuranko; brothers-in-law, Conrad Shefchuk, Carl Yuranko, Elmer Banko, Pete Miller, Glenn Tropf and Robert Tropf; sisters-in-law, Laverne Banko, Dorothy Miller and Emily Ricker; and nephew, Dennis Parton, and niece, Glenna Parton.

Jennie’s family asks friends and family to come remember Jennie on Tuesday, June 27, from 4-7 p.m., at Swine Creek Park Lodge, 16004 Hayes Road, Middlefield.

William Donald Jackson

Together again…

William Donald Jackson, 88, lifelong resident of Burton, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center.

He was born on Oct. 9, 1928, in Cleveland, son of Everett and Ada (nee Street) Jackson.

He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran.

William retired from Geauga County Highway Department as a foreman.

He was owner of Bill and Dave’s Sohio Gas Station in Newbury Township; worked for Standard Oil; drove a steel rig and worked for Nightingale excavating. He also ran ambulance with Russell Funeral Service years ago.

He was a member of Burton Congregational Church and Burton Volunteer Fire Department, where he was the fire chief for years and was instrumental in starting EMT/Rescue squad with Alan Nichol.

His hobbies included gardening, fishing, woodworking, playing pinochle and working on cars.

After retirement, he enjoyed being a snowbird in Florida.

William is survived by his son, William (Caryn) Jackson, of Columbus; two daughters, Helen (Jim) Safranek, of West Farmington, and Pat Tutsock (companion Sam Warren), of Newbury; five grandchildren, Christopher (Chaz) Safranek, Jennifer (Rob) Wadas, Kathy (James) Taylor, William Jackson and David Jackson; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Safranek, Ariana Wadas, Sophia Wadas and Alexis Safranek; and five siblings, Robert (Nancy) Jackson, Ken Miller, Susan (George) Neff, Tom (Ruth) Jackson and Diane (Bob) Bowman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol J (Brown) Jackson, of 61 years, before she passed away in 2012; parents, Everett Jackson, Ada Jackson Miller and stepfather, William Miller; and a son-in-law, Gary Tutsock.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, June 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a Celebration of Life at 1 p.m., at Russell-Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 West High St., Middlefield.

Burial will follow at Welton Cemetery.

Norman Paderewski

MUNSON TWP. – Norman “Bud” Paderewski, of Munson Township, died on June 18, 2017.

He was born in Cleveland, on May 5, 1944, to Norman and Evelyn (nee Zamiska) Paderewski. Bud was a graduate of Brush High School, Class of 1962, and received his B.S. in Engineering in 1968 from Ohio University.

On Aug. 28, 1965, he married Ruth Adams, in Lyndhurst.

Bud was an engineer at General Motors, starting at the former Fisher Body, in Euclid, for 29 years. He retired in April of 2009, after 38 and one-half years.

Bud was a car enthusiast, and enjoyed refurbishing and rebuilding cars, engines and anything else he could find or was brought to him. If he couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed!

He was happiest camping and boating with his family and friends, especially at Kinzua Reservoir and Kentucky Lake. He and his wife started with a tent and progressed through multiple campers, finally graduating to Class A’s.

He loved being on his powerboat, “going fast,” and tubing and skiing with his kids, and grandkids.

Survivors include Ruth, his wife of nearly 52 years; his mother, Evelyn, of Willoughby; daughters, Kristy (Danny) Mancini, of Ashtabula, and Sheri (Don) Church, of Dripping Springs, Texas; grandsons, Max, Sam and Cal Church; and sisters, Judy (Mike) Morton, of Concord Township, and Ellen (Buddy) Robertson, of Eastlake, OH.

His father preceded him in death.

Visitation is Thursday, June 22, from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m., with the funeral service at 7 p.m. at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St. Chardon.

BAINBRIDGE TWP. – Christopher Robert Bryan, age 34, of Bainbridge Township, passed away June 20, 2017, after a courageous battle with a bacterial infection.

Cherished son of Patty Willson and stepson of Greg Marous; dear brother of Jeffrey Bryan (Karl McCabe) and stepbrother of Jason Marous; dearest grandson of Shirley Willson Page (Richard); nephew of Robert Willson (Lisa), David Willson (Jessica Walentynowicz) and Paul Willson (Suzanne); cousin to many; and best friend of John Thorne.

Chris was a graduate of Kenston High School, Class of 2001, and attended Lakeland Community College. He worked as a home health aide and was co-owner of Absolute Intense Wrestling.

Friends received at the St. John Funeral Home, 16381 Chillicothe Road, Bainbridge, on Saturday, June 24, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by burial and committal service at 2 p.m. at Restland Cemetery, Bainbridge.

CLARIDON TWP. – Patricia A. (nee Meacham) Griffin, age 82, of Claridon Township, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born Dec. 25, 1934, in Cleveland, to Kelly and Alice (nee Nabors) Meacham, she was a lifelong area resident.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles and gambling. She was a wonderful cook and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Catherine (Dale) Schimmelman, of Claridon, Gary (Cindy) Griffin, of Pierceton, Ind., Karen Braun, of Bowling Green, Ky., and Robert Griffin, of Middlefield; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dennis) DeRenzo, Julie (Dave) Berman, Chris Schimmelman, Melinda (Jon) Mueller, Ashley Griffin, Christopher Griffin and Kathryn (Chris) Johnson; and great-grandchildren, David, Sierra, Sophia, Cooper, Alex, Gabe, Audrey, Ari and Evie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William L., whom she married on Dec. 15, 1952, and died on March 16, 1992; daughter Denice; and sister, Linda Pritchard.

Private family services were held at the Burr Funeral Home, Chardon.

Wanda J. Ash

CHARDON – Wanda J. Ash (nee Dines), age 85, of Chardon, died Sunday, June 25, 2017, following complications from a long series of illnesses.

Wanda was born Dec. 28, 1931, to Otis and Corabelle (nee Armstrong) Dines and was a lifelong area resident.

As a 30-year employee of Lawyers Title in Chardon, Wanda was known to many. She was a long-time member of Pilgrim Christian Church in Chardon. Wanda never met anyone she did not like.

Her gifted cooking and baking talents brought her family together many times while she passed her knowledge on to others.

Wanda and her husband Raymond’s unselfish generosity were quietly known to many.

Survivors include her daughter, Victoria (Raymond) Fink; grandsons, Adam and Nicholas Fink; “granddaughters,” Diedre Lisk and Allison Ellenberger; brothers, Gary (Marlette) Dines and Earl (Lori) Dines; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, of 38 years; parents; and sister, Gloria Dines.

The family thanks so many that cared for her along the way. These caregivers and friends will never be forgotten.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 28, from 4-7 p.m., at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.

CHARDON – Ronald J. Bottger, age 76, of Chardon, died June 23, 2017, at the Providence Alaska Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

A fellowship gathering was held June 29, from 5-8 p.m., at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. June 30 at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury Township. Interment was in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.

Born in Cleveland in 1941 and always a diehard Cleveland sports fan, Ron attended college at Kent State, wore many hats as a volunteer at West Geauga Recreation Council and Maple Leaf Community Residences, Inc., and as a coach for his sons.

Mr. Bottger, a 35-year public servant, worked for the Village of Hunting Valley as a patrol officer, detective, sergeant and later as Hunting Valley’s service director.

After retiring from the Village of Hunting Valley, Ron drove a school bus for West Geauga Schools.

In recent years, Ron worked as an electronic assembler for Meritec.

Mr. Bottger will always be remembered for his engaging smile, as a practical joker and a champion for the underdog.

Survivors include his devoted wife of nearly 54 years, Janie (nee Murdock) Bottger; sons, Michael (Christie Daubert-Bottger), Mark (Dawn Lemmo-Bottger); daughter, Kristen; grandchildren, Natalie, Matthew and Zachary Bottger. Beloved brother of Joan Bottger-Venaleck (John “Jack” Venaleck Sr.) and dear uncle to many.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, John Bottger and Rose Marie Bottger (nee Potisk).
