CHARDON – Al R. Hunziker, age 81, of Chardon, died Oct. 22, 2019, at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center.
Born Feb. 16, 1938, to Al M. and Nellie (nee Demicone) Hunziker, in Cleveland, he lived in Kirtland before moving to Chardon.
Al was an electrician with Local #38, chief building official for Highland Heights, Lake County, and he retired from Oakwood Village after 22 years of service.
Al also served on the planning and zoning board for the City of Chardon.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, camping and traveling with his family. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Al proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Irene (nee Dupont) Hunziker; son, Marc Hunziker, of Munson Township; daughter, Denise (John) Joaquin, of Chardon; and grandsons, Kyle and Max Hunziker, and Joseph and Daniel Joaquin.
Al was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends Oct. 24, 2019, from 6-8 p.m., at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.
Private family burial will be held at Chardon Municipal Cemetery.
