Wilbur Poyer

HARTSGROVE TWP. – Wilbur Poyer, age 94, of Hartsgrove Township, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center.

He was born in Cleveland, on Feb. 9, 1925, the son of George and Mary (nee Patterson) Poyer.

Wilbur was married to “the love of his life” Patricia (nee Kohler) Poyer on May 4, 1957. She preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 1978.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Philippines and Korea. He was the owner of Poyer Supply, a plumbing and heating business, for more than 50 years.

Wilbur attended New Promise Church in Kirtland, was a member of Orwell American Legion Post 719, VFW and past chief of Hartsgrove Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed traveling to other countries and vacationing in his RV, visiting family and friends around the U.S. Florida was a destination for him in the winters.

He was a farmer at heart and a jack-of-all-trades. He will be remembered as a hard-working man who was giving and willing to help whenever needed. He always had a fresh pot of coffee for anyone who dropped in.

Wilbur’s heart was always in Hartsgrove.

Survivors include his children, Bruce (Jayne) Poyer, of Hartsgrove, and Gayle (Tom) Wochele, of Hartsgrove; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; stepfather, Cy Miller; brothers, William and George Poyer; and sister, Marie Novak.

No services will be held at this time.
