CHARDON – Dr. Robert “Doc” Alexander DVM, age 89, of Chardon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, at his residence.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1929, in Pemberville, Ohio, to Kenneth and Susie (nee Bruning) Alexander. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University, School of Veterinary Medicine, and served in the U.S. Army.
Doc married Beverly Gorrill on Aug. 21, 1953. They lived in Westlake, where they raised their four children. He then married Georgiann Farinacci, in Chardon, on June 21, 1989.
Doc owned the Wiley Avenue Animal Clinic, in Cleveland; served as Cuyahoga County Dog Warden as well as the manager/director of the Cleveland Animal Protective League.
Doc was an avid skier and enjoyed his vacation home in Ellicottville, N.Y. He was also an active sailor and raced out of the Lakeside Yacht Club.
A farmer at heart, his wonderful “Kitchen Garden” supplied the neighborhood with vegetables and herbs. On a happiness scale of one to 10, Doc was always a 12.
Survivors include his wife, Georgiann, of Chardon; daughter, Juli, of Seaside, Calif.; sons Bradley (Elizabeth) Alexander, of Medina, and David (Bonnie) Alexander, of Olmsted Falls; twin brother, James, of Pemberville; step-children, Don (Donna) Farinacci, of Valley City, Ohio, Rex Farinacci, of Mentor, Ann (Tim) Litts, of Chardon; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Doc was preceded in death by two sons, Craig and Chris; grandson, Kent; two brothers, Henry and Don; sister, Doris Fessler; and step-daughter Lyn Cortez.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, from 6-8 p.m., at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Pilgrim Christian Church, 202 South Hambden St., Chardon, followed by a celebration of life at 3 p.m. at Crop Bistro, 2537 Lorain Road, Cleveland.
