PARKMAN TWP. – Horst “Ben” T. Rohrer, 81, of Parkman Township, passed from this life Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, while visiting his family in Winter Garden, Fla.
Ben was born in Berlin, Germany, on Jan. 14, 1937. He is once again reunited with his loving wife of 57 years, Kay (nee Carter) Rohrer, who died April 24, 2016.
He moved to the United States as an international exchange high school student. Eventually, Ben studied physics at the University of New Mexico and later joined the United States Army, thereby gaining American citizenship.
During his military service, Ben met his beloved wife, Kay Rohrer, in Parkman. Here, they built a secure, happy life for their children, Hans and Edie.
Ben and Kay were a team. Together they raised their children, built businesses and loved their family and friends.
Ben passed his strong work ethic to his family. From his position as Vice President at Charles Chevrolet and Oldsmobile to providing a taxi service to Middlefield residents, Ben Rohrer was a solid, reliable and dedicated man. Even when his health was failing in Florida, he continued to push himself to make the most of everyday by sharing his witty sense of humor with all those he met.
Ben is survived by his son, Hans (Dianne) Rohrer; daughter, Edie (Charles) Thibodeaux; and grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Greta, Grant and Mandy.
A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 4, 2018, at Overlook Cemetery, 18145 Tavern Road, Parkman.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the special fund near and dear to Ben’s heart, The Rohrer Grandchildren College Fund, c/o The Middlefield Bank, P.O. Box 35, Middlefield, OH 44062.
