Ruth A. Briggs

Ruth A. Briggs (nee Zurn), 76, of Middlefield (formerly of Hiram), passed away peacefully at the David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland, Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 13, 2017.

She was born in Erie, Pa., on Sept. 15, 1941, to the late Frederick and Dolores (nee Sonnabend) Zurn.

She retired from teaching after 35 years at Crestwood Elementary School. Ruth then remained active in her church and community. She was part of the Women’s Guild at the Mantua Christ Lutheran Church.

Ruth also enjoyed playing 5 card pinochle and being a member of the Hiram Research Club.

When staying in Bradenton, Fla., she became active in the Women’s Castle Club of Braden Park, where she was serving as the current secretary. Ruth was also the treasurer of the Braden Castle Festival.

Ruth will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Thomas Briggs; step-children, Frank (Tricia) Briggs, Rick (Lisa) Briggs, Jane (Frank) Apicella, Mike Briggs; nine step-grandchildren; three great-step-grandchildren; siblings, Robert (Jule) Zurn, Carol (Kit) Kramer; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s memory are requested to be made to either the Women’s Guild of Christ Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 737, Mantua, OH 44255 or to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
