Douglas B. Brown, 64, died Oct. 12, 2017.

Doug was known for his love of motorcycling, mountains, food and friends.

While possessing an often tough exterior, he was an attentive and generous soul, giving selflessly to those around him. He frequently said that his life was full and he accomplished much more than he had ever dreamed, often commenting how extraordinarily fortunate he was.

Doug held strong opinions and could exercise a cutting humor, at times exasperating those who loved him. That said, he was not so rigidly committed to a position that he was unable to change his mind or exercise independent judgment. Not fitting easily into ideological camps, Doug was truly his own person.

He founded his employment law firm in 1996 and was solidly dedicated to his clients and his work. He was proud of the business he built, of the quality of the services he provided and of the resulting professional and personal relationships he developed.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel rescue dogs were his constant companions and one was often found snoozing away at his feet or having its ears scratched on Doug’s lap. He is survived by Cooper, a spunky and loving Cavalier.

His wife, Linda Brown, of Chagrin Falls; and siblings, Lynn (Trina) and Stuart (Sandra), of Boston, Mass., also survive him.

A casual (no funeral garb please, jeans preferred) celebration of his life, with light refreshments, will be held on Oct. 28, from 1-4 p.m., at Chagrin Valley Athletic Club, 17260 Snyder Road, Bainbridge Township.

A short series of reflections will be shared at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, we suggest a contribution to Doctors Without Borders.
