George Gould VanDeweel

George Gould VanDeweel, age 87, died May 20, 2017.

He was born in Cleveland, on Oct. 6, 1929, the son of George E. and Kathlyn H (nee Gould) VanDeweel.

George was a retired VP of Ameritrust Bank and past National Auditor for the Supreme Lodge of the World, Moose Fraternity.

He was a three-year faculty member Ohio School of Consumer Credit and taught banking classes at KSU main campus during same period.

George also was a Masonic Blue Lodge member of Burton and a 32 Degree Mason, Valley of Steubenville; a four-year veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict; a past Post County Commander of the American Legion; and a member of Ashtabula VFW.

A 1947 graduate of Burton High School, he graduated from Ohio University School of Banking and The Graduate School of Banking at the University of Virginia.

He was preceded in death by sister, Kathlyn Ross VanDeweel, of Akron.

Survivors include his three children, George (Terri), of Burton, Sherri Wood (Carl), of Pinehurst, N.C., and Greg (Christine), of Perry; nine grandsons and one granddaughter; sister, Gloria Hanzel, of Maricopa, Ariz.; and brother, Charles (Jeanine), of Dallas, Texas.

There will be no calling hours or services per Mr. VanDeweel’s wishes.
