CHARDON – Jan Lynette Stewart, age 67, of Chardon, passed away April 26, 2017, at David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland.
Born Nov. 4, 1949, in Muncie, Ind., to Lex and Oreda M. (nee Rarick) Richards, she had been a 45-year Chardon resident.
Jan married James J. Stewart on Aug. 5, 1972. He preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1997.
Jan retired from Chardon Schools in 2007 after 35 years of teaching elementary school music.
Jan was involved in many activities, including: Past President and State Scholarship Committee for Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Kiwanis International, ABWA, Wickliffe Lanes Bowling Group, Meals on Wheels, Geauga County Retired Teacher Association and a very active member of Pilgrim Christian Church in Chardon.
Musically, Jan played with the Pilgrim Brass, Bell Choir, sang in the Chancel Choir, the Lake County Ukulele Club and was a former member of The Great Geauga County Fair Band and the Geauga County Senior Center Sweet Strings dulcimer group. She directed the Geauga County Rube Band and was and accomplished flute and piccolo player.
She was a member of Emmaus and met with the Saturday Saints Study Group.
Jan is survived by her sister, Jill (Bob) Wilkin, of Woodridge, Ill.; an aunt, cousins, nieces, nephews and special friend, Jim Madea, of Chardon; and many special friends and caregivers, including Carane Ladd, Donna and Ken Temple, Roz Kvet, Barb Petersen and Pennie Baptie, all of Chardon.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. May 6 in the Pilgrim Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 202 South Hambden St., Chardon.
A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. May 6 in the Sanctuary of the church.
Private family burial will take place.
