ROCKFORD, IL – Angus F. “Fred” Bond IV, 62, of Rockford, Ill.,, died March 2, 2017, of cardiac arrest at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.
He was born Oct. 20, 1954, to Angus F. Bond III and Anna Ruth (nee Tucker) Bond, in Cleveland, where he grew up in the neighborhood of Beachland.
He graduated from Collinwood High School, in 1972, and attended Case Western Reserve University / Case Institute of Technology, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, in 1976.
Fred worked his entire career in engineering.
Fred loved hiking in the woods and was an active member of NEOOC (Northeast Ohio Orienteering Club).
He was an avid fan of Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek and other space-related science fiction. He studied astronomy as a hobby and liked to point out stars and constellations in the night sky.
Fred also recently enjoyed woodworking and was especially proud of a very sturdy stool he designed and constructed.
Other interests were Scottish sword dancing and Scottish culture, technology and circuits, reading, classical music, art and calligraphy. Fred was very fond of Chinese culture. He learned to speak and write the Mandarin Chinese language and traveled to China several times.
Surviving are his wife, Xing Liang, and stepdaughter, Beini Pan; two sons, Angus F. “Rick” Bond V and Donald C. (wife, Kendal) Bond; father, Angus F. Bond III, of Cleveland; three brothers and three sisters; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Bond.
Funeral services will be held March 11 at 2 p.m. at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, with the Rev. Rosalind Hughes officiating.
Burial will take place March 13 at 11 a.m. at Overlook Cemetery in Parkman Township.
