Roger “Scott” Downes was 75 when he passed away Dec. 3, 2016, at the Burton Health Care Center in Burton.
Born in Pennsylvania on April 19, 1941, Scott’s family moved to East Cleveland and eventually to Burton, where he graduated from Burton High School in 1959. He then went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree at The Ohio State University.
Scott served in the Army ROTC starting in 1959 and was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard of Ohio in June 1970.
Scott worked alongside his father, Roger Downes, at the family business, Apex Appraisal, in Cleveland, for many years before assuming full responsibility for the firm.
He was an active member of the community, serving as a Deacon at the Federated Church in Chagrin Falls.
He also enjoyed playing tennis, bike riding and spending time with friends and family.
Scott is survived by his sister Mary Coe Tucker (husband, Tom) and their children, Ann Wilmot (husband, Dave) and Rob (wife, Kathy); fiancé, Rose Marie Morris, Rose’s daughter, Carey McDonald (husband, Scott), and their children, Cole and Keely, Rose’s son, Dace-Allen (wife, Jessica); former wife, Carole Downes; daughter, Ellen McDougall (husband, Glenn) and their children, Graeme and Donald; nephew, Tom Humes; and cousins, Susan Scott and Martha Downes (husband, Tom Scheidecker).
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Kathryn Downes; and sister Kathryn Downes.
A service celebrating Scott’s life is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Burton Congregational Church, 14558 W. Park St., Burton.
A reception will be held in the church’s fellowship hall immediately following the service for anyone wishing to visit with family and friends.
