Margaret K. Halstead

halstead-margaret-picMIDDLEFIELD – Margaret K. Halstead, 86, of Middlefield, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center.

She was born July 1, 1930, in Cleveland, to the late George and Lottie J. (nee Kusmierkuski) Kneier.

Marge grew up in Cleveland, moving to Middlefield in 1943 at the age of 13. She graduated from Andrews School for Girls in Willoughby.

Marge worked for Sajar Plastics and then ran the Middlefield License Bureau.

Tom and Marge owned and operated Halstead’s Middlefield Furniture store. In 1970, they developed Settlers Farm in Middlefield.

She was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church in Middlefield.

She loved her Swim Club, Card Club and the Winnebago Club “W.O.W.” She enjoyed golfing, playing cards, knitting, reading and cooking. She always had a new recipe to try.

Marge also enjoyed making quilts, knitting, traveling with her family and listening to polka music.

Staying in contact with her granddaughter, family and friends through birthday cards and heartfelt messages was one of her favorite past-times. Her wit, her beauty, and her thoughtfulness for others will be greatly missed.

Marge will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 63 years, Tom Halstead; daughters, Janet “Jan” Kantz, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Ann Halstead, of Middlefield; granddaughter, Abigail Halstead, of Middlefield; brother George (Helen) Kneier, of Gates Mills; sisters, Donna (Don) Anderson, of Middlefield, and Mary Ann Kneier, of Middlefield, sister-in-law, Juanita Kneier, of Knoxville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Jack Kneier.

A Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, with a gathering of family and friends after the Memorial Mass at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 16280 Kinsman Road, Middlefield.

Marge will be buried at a later date in Middlefield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donation to University Geauga Medical Center Women’s Auxiliary, 13207 Ravenna Road, Chardon, OH 44024 or to the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry , P.O. Box 207, Middlefield, OH 44062.
