Albert J. McQuistion

CHARDON –  Albert J. McQuistion, age 90, a 50-year resident of Chardon, entered into eternal life Sept. 30, 2016.

Born July 25, 1926, to the late Albert H. and Ester M. (nee Herman) McQuistion, in Mansfield.

Albert was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on the USS McDermut in the South Pacific. He earned a Silver Star for serving in five major battles, including the battle of Leyte Gulf, which was the largest naval battle of World War II.

After being discharged from the Navy in 1945, he joined the carpenters union and started McQuistion Construction. He built many beautiful homes in the Geauga County area.

Albert was a member of the Celebration Lutheran Church. He also was a Mason and belonged to the Village Lodge Masonic Temple #274 in Burton.

As a Boy Scout, Albert became interested in collecting arrow heads and built a large collection over the years. He belonged to an archeology society and loved Native American history.

His family describes him as a very strong, loving and honorable man that was very proud of his service to his country.

Albert is survived by his children, Stefanie Flora (husband Mark) and Albert H. McQuistion (wife Linda); grandchildren, Christina Herron, Melanie (Herron) Billman, Michelle (Flora) Fischer, Harrison Flora, Helen (McQuistion) Wilson; four great-grandchildren; and his dear friend, Goldie Tenerove.

Besides his parents, Albert was preceded in death by his brother, Dave E. McQuistion and his wife Marie.

Burial will be in the Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
