NEWBURY TWP. – Kay L. Filla, age 65, of Newbury Township, passed away Sept. 13, 2016, at her home from a long battle with Shy-Draggers Syndrome.
Born Feb. 27, 1951, in El Hambra, Calif., she had been a longtime area resident.
Petty Officer 1st Class Kay Knausse met Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Filla while both were in the U.S. Navy stationed at Adak Island, Alaska. They married June 8, 1979, in Palo Alto, Calif., after which they moved to Newbury.
Kay worked as a broadcast designer and later news coordinator with Fox 8 in Cleveland, earning a Regional Emmy for her work in 1983. She retired in 2011 when her disease prevented her from working.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years Michael, of Newbury; and sister, Mary (John) Bacigalupi, of Grass Valley, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Per Kay’s wishes, no public services will be observed, but she will take one last trip with Mike and be scattered at Big Sur, Calif.
