John Douglas Peck died peacefully at home on Jan. 2, 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones.

John was born Dec. 11, 1936, to his late mother and father, Eleanor Peck (nee Riha) and John Gordon Peck, in Cleveland, where he lived for many years until eventually moving to Chesterland.

John is preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 56 years, Geraldine Peck (nee Komidar); sister, Barbara Ann Boban (Larry); and grandparents, John and Bertha Peck, and Joseph and Julia (nee Vales) Riha.

Not long after high school, John joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Newfoundland until the mid-1960s. After coming back to the Cleveland area, he met Geraldine Komidar at his job, where they both worked. They were married on May 14, 1966, eventually moving to Chesterland.

John was a kind and gentle soul who loved his wife, his two sons and three grandchildren immensely.

Always a good provider, John tried his hand at running his own retail store in the 1980s called “John’s World of Camping” in which camping was a passion of his and the family.

John touched the lives of many with his kindness, inspiration and fatherly advice.

He enjoyed gardening, camping with his children, music, movies, The St. Anselm Young of Hearts, trips to Geauga Lake Amusement Park with his sons, and simply putting on a pot of coffee and reading the paper.

He loved Christmas and the holiday season and would sometimes start listening to Christmas songs in August.

He always tried to do the best by his family and would encourage and believe in them.

Anyone who met John always enjoyed his sense of humor and he always loved a good laugh.

John is survived his sons, John J. Peck (Carrie) and Daniel A. Peck; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and three beautiful grandchildren, Lilah Peck, Lina Peck and Eleanor Peck.

Family and friends may call at Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home, 12524 Chillicothe Road, Chesterland, on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, from 4-7 p.m., with a service at 7 p.m.
