Doris Mae Hooberry (nee Cuckow), age 92, of Chardon, passed away on Aug. 7, 2023, at David Simpson Hospice House, Cleveland.
Born Aug. 31, 1930, in Cleveland, to Alfred and Mildred (nee Glover) Cuckow, she has been a Chardon area resident for many years.
Doris was a special needs teacher at Burton Schools, administrator of Allan Dell Care Center in Huntsburg Township (currently Blossom Hill Care Center) and, in 1986, they built and operated Laurie Ann Nursing Home, and then expanded by adding Allan Dell Assisted Living, in Newton Falls.
Doris has traveled all over the world and greatly enjoyed her family vacations.
She was active in Aglow Ministries, an active women’s group throughout the world. She attended The Sanctuary in Middlefield.
Survivors include her daughter Mary (Charles) Duncan, of Chardon Township; grandchildren, Charles R. Duncan, of St. Cloud, Fla., April Duncan, of Chardon, Michelle Meyers, D.O., of Kimberly, Idaho, Ericka (Matthew) Knipp, of Senoia, Ga., Deidre McHugh, of Shelton, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Victoria, Elizabeth and Isabella Duncan, Gabriel and Scarlett Knipp, and Cecilia and Nathan Meyers.
Doris also leaves her sister Carol Chitwood, of Middlefield; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends Marge Tompkins, Sharon Jones and Charlotte Murphy.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Hooberry; son, Allan Dale Hooberry; granddaughter Laurie Ann Duncan; daughter Katherine Kolesar; and siblings Lois Mooney and Dale Cuckow.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, with a funeral service to begin at 12 noon, followed by the burial at Huntsburg Cemetery.
