Nancy Joanne Purpura (nee Ziska), 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 24, 2022.
She was born Jan. 29, 1937, in Cleveland, daughter of James and Marie Ziska. She was a graduate of South High in Cleveland.
Nancy married Donald Purpura, then moved to Middlefield, where she called home for 57 years.
Nancy was the head cook at Briar Hill Nursing Home for 20 years, retiring, and then became a greeter at Walmart. She also loved to volunteer at Geauga Hospital and worked for the Geauga County Board of Elections.
Most of all, she enjoyed her family. She had a special and unique relationship with each of her loved ones.
She enjoyed golf and watching her kids and grandchildren participate in various sports, and was a huge fan of the Cleveland Browns.
Nancy will be sadly missed by her three children, Donny, David (fiancé Janet Baustert) and Karen (Craig) Porter; five grandchildren, Nicole, Chad, Anthony, Kailee (fiancé Kevin Hofstetter) Cody (Kayla); three great-grandchildren, Caiden, Colbey and Crew; brother, Jim (Pat) Ziska; nephews, Daren (Connie), Dean (Stacy), Dale (Vickie); great-nieces, Brooke, Paige, Violet, Chloe; and her dog, Mickey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Purpura; and two grandsons, Ryan Gilson and Justin Purpura.
A special thank you to the Hospice of the Western Reserve and Maria Miller who helped our family with home care.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
