Robert Cooper

Robert “Bob” Cooper, age 90, passed away at his home in Sherman, Texas, on Feb. 21, 2022.

He was born in Onida, S.D., to parents George and Anna Cooper.

A former resident of Chardon, he graduated with the “Class of ’50.”

While in high school, Bob joined the National Guard. He was activated during the Korean War and proudly served for two years with the 45th Infantry Division. Upon his return from active duty, he attended Ohio University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree  and a Master’s of Fine Art.

An accomplished photographer, he worked in the fields of education, medicine, commercial and the military. Bob received many awards for his photographic works.

After active duty, Bob proudly remained in the 45th Infantry Division. Military was his passion. He received the Legion of Merit Award and retired as Sergeant Major after 44 years of service.

Bob’s other passion was fishing and he spent many hours on the water somewhere. While living on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, he often fished the Strait of Juan de Fuqua with his wife, Barbara.

Much of his life was spent in the state of Texas and he had many memorable fishing trips with his sons.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sons, Robbie, Jeff and Craig.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara “Bonnie”; daughter, Carolee Cooper, of Woodbridge, Va.

Also surviving are a sister, Carol Goodrich (Tom), of Greenwood, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Ronda Cooper; and grandsons,  Lane, Cameron and Riley, of Shawnee, Okla.

Per Bob’s request, no memorial services were held, only special family prayers.
