CHARDON – Shirley May Wagner (nee Fortney), age 88, of Chardon, passed away on Dec. 9, 2020, at Heather Hill Care Communities of Chardon.
She was born April 9, 1932, to Carl and Verna (nee Johnson) Fortney.
Shirley married Herbert H. Wagner on April 8, 1950, in Reno, Nev. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1980.
Shirley was born in Hamilton, Mont., grew up in Fairfield, Calif., and always considered herself a “California girl.” She moved to Ohio after her marriage to Herbert and raised four boys.
She worked many years at Conley’s in Chardon, where she was one of the original “Conley girls,” forging lifelong friendships with all she met. She later advanced to a regional manager position with the Diamond Mercantile Clothing Company, serving stores throughout northern Ohio.
Shirley was loved by all who knew her. Her smile, her laugh, her loving, caring compassion for others will be deeply missed, but her memory will live in the many hearts she touched.
She is survived by her sons, Dennis Wagner (Jackie), of Hambden Township, Scott (Rhonda) Wagner, of Perry, and Guy (Tamara) Wagner, of Leroy Township; grandchildren, Brent (Lindsay) Wagner, of Rancho Mirage, Calif., Stasha (Sean) Garland, of Newbury Township; great- grandchild, Emma Garland; brother Edward (Francis), of Big Pine, Calif.; and sister Bea.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Verna; husband, Herbert; son Kenneth; sister Kay; and brother, Robert.
The family will be having private family services. Burial will be at All Soul Cemetery in Chardon Township.
Arrangements entrusted to the Burr Funeral Home, Chardon. Information and condolences online at www.burrservice.com.
