CHARDON – George Edward Maust, age 82, of Chardon, died July 16, 2020 at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center in Claridon Township.
He was born March 12, 1938, to George E. and Marie (nee Schroyer) Maust, in Acosta, Pa., he has been an area resident since 1959.
After graduating from Sommerset High School, in 1956, he proudly joined the U.S. Air Force. After his service commitment, he came to Euclid to join GE as a machinist. After the plant closed, he and three others started and operated Matrix, a machine shop that is still in operation today.
George was an avid woodworker, making many beautiful pieces for family and friends to enjoy. He was an active member of Geauga Aerie Eagles 2261.
George is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dora (nee Merkosky), of Chardon; daughter Pam (Brett) Crawford, of Chardon Township; granddaughters, Brianna Crawford, of Mentor, and Candace (Nate) Remington, of Russell Township; and great-grandchildren, Reece and Peighton.
He also leaves his sister Lenola Platnick, of Nevada; and their adoptive daughter, Angela Knight.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Georgie; daughter Teresa; brother, Braden Minerd; and sisters Reva Lappi and Tulva Durst.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 21, 2020, from 4-7 p.m., at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at 11 a.m., followed by burial at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
