Jeannette D. Giles

PARKMAN TWP. – Jeannette “Jean” D. Giles, 101, of Parkman Township, passed away peacefully at Blossom Hill Health Care on Tuesday morning, March 25, 2020.

She was born in Parkersburg, W. Va., on July 5, 1918, to the late Glenn and Elsie (nee Boger) DeGroft.

Jean is once again reunited with her husband of 60 years, Richard W. Giles, who died Nov. 12, 2003.

She moved from West Virginia to Geauga County in 1929.

Jean graduated from Chardon High School and then Kent State University before marrying Richard on Feb. 19, 1943.

In 1945, she relocated to Parkman and was a teacher for 37 and one-half years.

After teaching, Jean continued driving a school bus for the next seven years before retiring. She was also co-owner of D & J Amusements for eight years, a mother and a housewife.

Jean enjoyed reading, doing volunteer work at Geauga Hospital, and spending time with her family and friends.

She was an active member of the following organizations: Chardon V.F.W. Post 6519 Auxiliary; Chardon Daughters of the American Revolution; Ohio and Geauga County Retired Teachers’ Association; life member of Geauga Historical Society; Antique Car Club of Eustis, Fla; and Geauga County Maple Festival Board.

Jean will be dearly missed by her children, Marsha (Gerald) Komandt, of Vienna, Va., Dixie (Henry) Warner, of Troy Township, Terry (Tim) Ross, of Leesburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Tammy (Michael) Palermo, Debby (Alex) Prvanovic, Rick (Liza) Warner, Tanya Komandt, Tara (Michael) Brill, Jennifer (Craig) George, David (Sierra) Shefchuk, Brian Shefchuk; 10 great-grandchildren; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Elsie; and husband, Richard.

Jean will be laid to rest in Overlook Cemetery in Parkman with private services.
